19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a decider.

He defended four early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
